Associations, companies, organizations, and authorities can apply for support to promote development within the leader area that includes Malå, Norsjö, and Skellefteå municipalities. Regardless of which initiative a project idea falls under, the leader association's board verifies that the intended project meets all basic requirements, after which prioritization occurs based on local selection criteria.

Does the project fall within the framework of our strategy?
Does the project contribute to fulfilling the purpose and goals in Leader Skellefteå Älvdal Local Development Strategy.
Collaboration
Is the project carried out in collaboration with others and is the result of the project beneficial to more than those who implement the project? Collaboration refers to two or more actors carrying out an initiative together for mutual benefit.
Implementation capacity

Local anchoring
Is the project locally anchored and does it have a bottom-up perspective? Local anchoring means that there is a locally identified need among those affected and that there is support for the project among residents and those active in the local area.
Innovation
Should the project be used to create development in various ways – not to support regular operations?
Gender equality
Is the project's working method and distribution of tasks designed so that women and men have equal opportunities to influence the project's design, participate in the implementation, and benefit from the project's results?
Non-discrimination
It is an absolute requirement that no one is prevented from influencing the project's design, participating in the implementation, or benefiting from the project's results due to gender, ethnic affiliation, religion, disability, sexual orientation, or age.
